We’re back at it today with another fun St. Patrick’s day printable activity for you!

Does anyone else feel like all the holidays fall back to back to back?  Even though I know we are close to St. Patrick’s Day, it feels like Valentine’s day was just yesterday and it will be Easter before we know it!

One of the ways we’ve been keeping sane over here since bringing home baby #3 is by having lots of pre-planned activities on stand-by and this preschool tracing activity sheet has been a surprisingly big hit.

It’s a simple, fun, St. Patrick’s day themed tracing sheet (that could also double as cutting practice if I printed an extra copy ) that is helping us work on our fine motor skills and pencil control over here.

What are the Benefits of Tracing Activities for Preschoolers?

Tracing is a great pre-writing skill for preschoolers.  Tracing helps children practice their pencil grip and fine motor skills that they need for forming letters, numbers, and even drawing shapes and pictures on their own.

It also allows them to concentrate on what they are “drawing” and boosts their confidence in writing when they are able to follow the line or picture they are tracing through to the end.

Depending on your child’s development, they may be more comfortable tracing simple lines, or they may be able to trace more complex patterns and designs.

This tracing sheet has a little of both, although to be fair, I do think it is more suited for children who are not just starting out tracing.

It really is just as easy as it looks.

  • Print off the tracing sheet
  • Laminate it or use a page protector to make it wipe clean and reusable
  • Use dry erase markers to trace the lines on the sheet.
    • You can get creative and use multiple colors for each line if you want.  We’re big on multiple colors over here, so you can see my guy “decorated” his tracing lines.
