These glitter glue snowflakes make a great winter craft for preschoolers. A fun glitter glue craft that has all the sparkle of glitter without the mess!

Who doesn’t remember making paper snowflakes growing up?  I always loved making the little cuts in my folded up snowflake and then seeing how the designs looked once the snowflakes were unfolded!

But, the fact is, young preschool is a little young to make intricate paper snowflake designs.  Enter these fun glitter glue snowflakes.  They’re the perfect winter craft for preschoolers who might not have mastered scissor skills yet.  Or are still practicing with scissors and maybe not ready to make small cuts needed for traditional paper snowflakes.

Why Glitter Glue Crafts?

We love using glitter glue for preschool crafts over here for many reasons.  First, being that glitter glue is a fun way to get to use glitter and make things sparkle without the mess of actual glitter.

Next, using glitter glue sticks is a great way for children to use their fine motor muscles as they press the glitter glue out of the tube and “write” with it to make their designs.

Finally, all the colors.  A single package of glitter glue sticks usually includes lots of colors, which is useful for encouraging creativity.

Glitter Glue Snowflake Craft

We loved making these glitter glue snowflakes!  It was such a fun winter craft to make – a fun way to enjoy “snow”, but a whole lot less messy than the real thing.

Here’s how you can make your own.

Supplies

Glitter Glue Snowflakes - A Fun Winter Craft for Kids. Craft supplies on counter top. Glue stick, glitter glue, blue paper and white paper strips.

  • Card stock paper or construction paper for your background
    • We used blue card stock paper since it’s a little bit more sturdy than construction paper, but I think construction paper would work just fine.  Blue or black are great colors for this craft, but of course, any color you choose is fine.
  • White paper cut into strips for snowflakes
    • Copy paper or construction paper is fine.
    • You can use scissors or a paper cutter to make your strips.  This is the paper cutter we have and it makes things like this MUCH easier!
    • Each snowflake will need at least 3 strips, but 4 is best (we think).
  • Glue sticks
  • Glitter glue pens

Directions

  • Use glue sticks to glue white strips into snowflake shapes.  (Just overlap them in a circle shape like the photo below.)
    • Using a glue stick as opposed to regular school glue will allow your snowflakes to dry more easily, be less messy, and make it much easier to apply glitter glue to each snowflake.

  • Once you’ve assembled your snowflakes to the background, use glitter glue to decorate each snowflake.
We actually ended up taking the tips off of several of our glitter glue sticks because they were almost empty from previous glitter glue crafts. This was WAY easier for decorating our snowflakes!
  • Decorate the background with more glitter glue as you wish.

And that’s it.  Easy peasy.  That’s really all there is to it.

You can’t really mess it up – every snowflake is different and unique, remember?  So let kids have some fun and get creative as they create their sparkly, snowy masterpieces.

Once it dries, you’ll have a fun winter craft to hang up for the season!
