Five on Friday: A Weekly Round-up with Live Well Play Together

Happy Friday, friends!  This week’s Five on Friday is coming to you a little bit late, but I figure that’s better than not at all, right?  To be honest, this post almost didn’t happen.  After I put Little down last night, I knew I needed to get online and prepare this morning’s post, but I just didn’t because I was exhausted.  So I chose to rest.  I’m not always the best at resting, so I needed to make an intentional choice to do so.

Anyway, here I am on Friday morning, feverishly typing out some of the highlights of our week because these really are some of my favorite posts on the blog.  It’s a fun and casual way to chat about our week and the things that have been going on.  Get some coffee, or whatever you pick and let’s talk.

And while you’re at it, be sure to check out lots of other great Five on Friday posts at these link ups:

Time to Work on the Blog

I went to the coffee shop by myself to work on the blog this week.  This never happens.  I usually write during naptime, so when Hubs surprised us and came home from work early one day this week, I took full advantage to get out of the house for a bit.  It was truly lovely.  I am so thankful for his support in finding time to work on the blog.

Surprise Visits from Friends

Yesterday, a friend who lives 9-10 hours away texted me randomly to see what we were up to.  I had no idea that she and her husband were driving through to go on vacation.  So, they stopped by and we surprised Hubs at work.  It was so much fun to see them, to catch up with them, and to walk around the city for some afternoon ice cream.

Waking up Early

Ok, I don’t know if this is a real highlight, but I want it to be.  My sleeping is going crazy a little bit.  I haven’t been going to sleep any earlier, but I have been waking up around 6 several mornings recently. That’s not early for many, but it is in our house.  I have been trying to use this to my advantage to get some things done in the mornings before everyone else gets up.  I don’t have a routine down, but I’m hoping that this time can be intentional and useful.  Frankly, I’ve always wanted to be a morning person, so maybe this is my chance. (That doesn’t sound dramatic at all, huh?)

Story Time at the Library

We’ve been going to story time at our local libraries for a really long time.  We have recently started going to story time multiple times a week (twice and sometimes on Saturday).  They actually do the same program each day of the week, so it’s a repeat, but I’ve found that Little remembers the songs and gets excited to know the letter of the week.  The repetition seems to make him more confident and outgoing.  I love to watch him learn new things.  And his dance moves are pretty sweet, if I say so myself.

Father’s Day Weekend

Finally, this weekend is Father’s Day and I’m thankful that we live close enough to both sets of our parents that we will get to see everyone.  We’re seeing my side of the family on Saturday and Hubs’ side on Sunday.  It should be a fun and relaxing time and Little is excited to see his grandparents and aunts/uncles.

In Case You Missed It

I posted pictures this week from a beautiful outdoor wedding that we recently went to along with 10 tips to help you plan your own outdoor wedding or event.  I was blown away at how detailed my friend was and it all really showed in how wonderful the event  was.  Be sure to check it out if you have any outdoor events coming up!

  1. I’m forever waking up early, whether I want to or not, and I’m definitely NOT a morning person! It does help get your day started, though. Sounds like you had a great week!

It was a pretty good week – full, but fun! I am trying to find a good routine for the mornings – especially if I’m going to be awake anyway!

  2. I wish we lived closer to our parents. It would have been fun to spend Father’s Day with them. At least we’re visiting my family this weekend so it’ll just be a delayed Father’s Day.

How fun to get a surprise visit from friends!

I am really thankful to live close enough to visit often. I hope you have a great weekend with your family this weekend!!

  3. Library time sounds like a fun time for your Little. Sometimes I miss the days of having a little one in the house. I had a friend to text me that she will be near next week, however I will not be around the days she’ll be here. Bummer. Hope your summer is going well.

Thanks so much! Storytime is lots of fun. We enjoy it so much and he really learns a lot from it. That stinks about missing your friend! Hopefully you’ll be able to catch up another time!

  4. My Friday post almost didn’t happen either! I sat down last night and had absolutely nothing to say. And my eyes were so tired. I finally just gave it up and said maybe in the morning. Thankfully, I was a little more with it this morning than I was last night! So fun that you got to see friends, what a blessing! Happy Weekend!

Thanks so much! I can’t sleep if I look at a screen too late at night, so I really had to choose sleep or blogging. I knew I would be much more with it in the morning! I hope you had a great weekend!

  5. I love getting up early in the morning and my 19 year old daughter simply can.not. wrap her brain around it! Good luck with becoming a morning person?

I am really trying to get used to it and start being intentional with the time. I really believe it is the way to find more time in the day and I’m hopeful to create some sort of routine that will help the rest of my day!
