Y’all.  This year is disappearing.  It’s going by so quickly.  This month has started out with both boys having colds, some days of quarantine, and one trip to the pumpkin patch on a healthy day.  Now that everyone seems to be well again, I’m excited to share our most recent Date Night In Box with y’all.

And lest you think for one second that we have it all together over here, this box was actually August’s box, but life happened, and it took us so long to actually sit down and get to it. That said, this is a BIG reason why I love Date Night In Boxes – they are built-in dates ready whenever you are – and they are way better late than not at all.

This Month’s Date Night In Box

If you missed our first Date Night In Box review be sure to check that post out here.

The theme of this month’s box was Dream Together.  It was a more relaxed date that was all about taking some time to think about your own personal and couple goals and to talk about those with your spouse.  It was actually a really great way for us to revisit some of the goals that we made at the start of the year and to think even more about some of the things that we’d love to do, see, and accomplish in the future.

How It Works

Date Night In Boxes are pre-planned dates delivered straight to your mailbox each month.  They each have a unique theme and are full of fun activities to help reconnect right from the comfort of your living room.

Each box has a date night guide, menu suggestions, activities, snacks, and a themed Spotify playlist to help set the mood.

What’s Inside

This month’s box was packed with the following:

  • Date Night In Guide
  • Dream Themed Scattergories Game Pad & Pencils
  • 2 Individual Dream Lists
  • A Master Dream List
  • Vanilla Scented Candle from Northern Lights (seriously smells SO GOOD.)
  • Bag of Beef Jerky (Hubs was a big fan of this!)
  • Dream Catcher Craft Kit

Our Dream Together Date

We skipped the dinner menu again this time, even though it looked delicious (I’m saving some of the recipes for later).  We did not skip the candle and special playlist though.  Those simple touches add such a fun element that really make the date feel like a special time.

The first thing we did was read through some of the table talk questions in the Date Night Guide.  I thought they were helpful to get us thinking about our dream lists.

Next, we spent some time each making our own dream lists – both short-term and long-term (while we snacked on the tasty beef jerky).  Once we finished, we swapped lists and read one another’s dreams out loud.

To be honest, I thought it was a bit odd that we needed to read the other’s dreams out loud rather than just reading our own dreams to our spouse, but in hindsight, there was something about hearing my own goals back to me that allowed me to kind of group them in my mind and even begin to mentally prioritize them.

It was also really fun to read Hubs’ dreams out loud to him.  Actually seeing them there in his handwriting and then reading them out loud made them kind of my goals, too.

We were able to find lots of common ground in our individual lists to help create our together dream list.  Many of our dreams and goals related to our marriage and family, our spiritual life and faith, and our health and home.  These are things that we can definitely work on together and encourage one another in.

Next, we moved to the game part of our date – Scattergories Dreams version.  Our Date Night in Box included everything we needed – the game pad, lists, and pencils.  This game was a lot more difficult than I expected it to be since you everything on your list has to start with the same random letter you pick for each round.  I forgot how much I like Scattergories (and games in general)!

Just like our previous box though, this game had us both laughing and just having fun.  There were several extra playing sheets included in our game pad and we saved all of them to play again later.

Finally, we took some time to create a little dream catcher together.  And while I can’t promise that it will be making a prominent appearance in our regular decor, it was fun to work on it together and enjoy one another’s company doing something we don’t usually do together.

Our Dream Together Review

This was a really great date for us!  It was a great opportunity to reconnect and share our goals and dreams for our future.  I appreciate the thoughtful way that these Date Night In Boxes encourage those kinds of conversations.  They are a great way to get us doing things we wouldn’t otherwise think about (like playing Scattergories or making a dream catcher for example) doing in the hustle and bustle.

And the truth is, we really needed this date.  It can be easy to get caught up in the details and to-do lists of everyday – working, taking care of the boys, managing the house, etc.  And we work really well together to get all those things done.

But it’s easy to pour all of ourselves into those things without much left over at the end of the day for one another.

That’s why I love Date Night In Boxes.  They make it SO EASY.  You just have to show up.

  1. Oh this one sounds like so much fun! I love scatergories so I think this would be a great way to connect! Date nights in are the best because sometimes it’s the only option. Definitely giving this one a look. <3 Jamie

You are not kidding about it sometimes being the only option! Still so important to make it happen though! And I LOVED playing scattergories! It was so much fun!
