And just like that, our baby boy is one year old!  I don’t know where in the world the time goes.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m feeling all sorts of things with this first birthday.  And it’s different than it was with Little.

Becoming a mom was a total game changer over here.  I could not possibly have understood the level of exhaustion, joy, love, and everything that being a mom would entail.

But we did it.  And y’all – I love my sweet Little to the moon.  He is such a great big brother – so smart and funny, observant, determined, wild, curious, and loving.  He made me a mama.

Little also taught me how quickly time flies by.  When it was just the two of us, I worked hard to remember.  To take in every little bit.  To hold on to it.   So, when he turned one – I was more ready, I think.  I had been watching it happen.  Watching so closely.  (And we share a birthday, so I was looking forward to my own birthday, too…)

In fact, the day I went into labor with our Littlest, I remember so well letting him skip nap and adventuring just the two of us.  We had Chick-Fil-A for dinner and he stayed up late reading books with me.  [Hubs was working late that night to finish some projects since he knew we were counting down the days until the littlest’s arrival.]  We snuggled until he fell asleep and I have a distinct memory of wanting to soak is all in since I knew things were changing soon.

In hindsight, I’m so thankful for that – not knowing it was our last night just us.

And then our littlest was born.  It was such a smooth and overall really great labor experience.  And immediately our hearts were won all over again.  Two precious boys to love.

And y’all.  I knew how quickly it would all pass by.  I knew it, and it was still faster than I could have imagined.  To be honest, it feels like about 9 months.  Max. It’s been a whirlwind.  A roller coaster in the best kind of way.

One year old.  One.  Not an infant anymore.  On the verge of walking independently.

Still sleeping like a champ, mostly.  Learning about morning adventures since he’s dropped his morning nap.

Teaching us all about balance.  And patience.  And sharing.  Joy.  Love. Fun.  Giving the sweetest love and always following after his big brother.

Laughing and dancing and babbling up a storm.

“Tumbling” with Little on the “big boy bed” before nap and bedtime.

Eating everything in sight.  Except eggs, because #foodallergies (but that’s a story for another day).

Waving at everyone and giving the sweetest (and sometimes most bashful) grin you ever saw.  But still preferring to be held by Mama and Daddy…only.

Baby boy.  You bring so much joy into our lives and our home.  We love you immensely and we are thankful every single day that you get to be in our family.

Today and all the others, sweet boy.

How has it already been a year? Today, I'm sharing my thoughts and reflections over the past year as we celebrate our youngest's first birthday! #firstbirthday #motherhood #babysfirstbirthday #oneyearold

  1. Happy birthday little one! I love watching the changes in the first year!

  2. It really does feel like it goes faster with the second! I think because you are busy chasing a toddler/other kid that you don’t get all those moments to soak it in.

  6. Motherhood does change the way you look at time, right? The days are long but the years are short is such a true statement. My oldest is about to be seven. It blows my mind. Happy first birthday to your cute little baby boy! Thanks for sharing with us at #LiveLifeWell
