Before we start today, I know what you’re thinking.  Two style posts in one month?  I know.  When I announced the What Mama Wore style series on the blog, it was going to be a monthly thing.  Then I skipped a couple of months and now we’re doubling up.  Let’s just think of it as making up for lost time.  Deal? Deal.

eShakti Overview

When eShakti contacted me to partner for this post, I immediately knew that I wanted to find a dress that was stylish, comfortable, and screamed fall.  I think I found it with this dress.  In case you haven’t heard of them before, eShakti is an online clothing retailer that specializes in custom styles for sizes 0-36.  They create the basic style, fabric, and print of the piece.  From there, you can customize everything based on your exact measurements and preferences.  Add pockets? Sure.  Make the sleeves longer or shorter?  You got it.  Change up the neckline or length of the dress?  Not a problem.

This allows you to create something that is truly yours.  Of course this means that shipping can take longer than other retailers – sometimes as long as 3 weeks for the item to arrive.  But if you’re willing to wait, you can really get a piece that you’ll love.  And their customer service team is really helpful.

For a full review of eShakti including my tips for shopping with them for custom clothing, be sure to see my earlier post here.  (I liked this dress even better than the first since I made careful note to read the description carefully!)

I chose this asymetric hem dress which I ended up really liking.  I have been SLOW to jump on the asymetric trend train and this is actually one of just a few things in my closet with a similar hemline.  Aside from being the color of my high school alma mater, this deep maroon color is the quintessential fall color to me. Well, that and olive and cream, but I digress.  What drew me to this dress besides the color was how comfy it looked.  The cotton knit has a light stretch and makes it feel like a shirt dress.  I wore it with ankle boots  by LOFT (to me by way of consignment at Clothes Mentor) and a lovely gold pendant necklace courtesy of my sister.  To go more casual, you could pair it with sneakers or even sandals, weather permitting.

It’s also really versatile.  Aside from being able to dress it up or down, it’s got pockets, is machine washable, and is long enough to be perfect for errands with a toddler, date night, or dinner with friends.  The only thing I would change on this one is that I found the sleeves to fit a little snug.  This won’t be an issue once it’s a little cooler since I won’t be trying to pull them up as high and will most likely add a vest and scarf (and maybe leggings) to make the dress transition into even cooler weather later in the fall. And who knows, you might even see those looks on the blog when it’s cooler.

Getting Ready for Fall

Now that you know what I’m wearing, let’s talk about the season, shall we?  Fall is my absolute favorite.  I think I can say that confidently without any exaggeration.  I love being outside, but once the temperatures climb above the 90 degree mark and the humidity starts climbing, too.  Summer gets kind of daunting to me.  If I’m not by the water, or in the shade, it can be tough.  My hair stays in a pony tail and I don’t stop sweating.  It’s not the end of the world, but it’s also not my favorite.  I also don’t love the middle of winter when it’s freezing cold outside.  It’s about moderation for me.  I feel so refreshed and motivated when autumn ushers in a reprieve from the summer (and likewise when spring brings relief from the cold).

What’s On Our Fall List

Fall also means so many fun activities!  Some of the things on our list this year include:

  • Visiting a pumpkin patch.
    • We took Little last year and he loved it.  I think it will only be more fun now that he is a year older.
  • Painting pumpkins.
    • We’re skipping the carving and opting to paint pumpkins.  It’s way safer with little ones.
  • Baking pumpkin bread (and cookies).
  • Football
    • I hope to go to at least one game this year.  It will likely be a high school game with my parents though.  Friday night football is fun to me.  I was in the marching band in high school and college, my dad coached at my high school and my brother played, so we’ve been around football for a long time.
  • Cooler weather
    • Because it’s just more fun to be outside when it’s nice out.
  • Hot lattes.
    • Let’s be real, I drink my lattes hot almost year round, but it feels even more like a treat in the fall.
  • Thanksgiving – because family and gratitude.
  • Opening the windows at night to let the cool air inside.
  • Cooking s’mores with neighbors.
  • Scarves.
  • Skinny Jeans.
  • Sneakers.
  • Vests.
  • Basically, all the fall things.

  11. Dress looks really cute on you. Love how you styled it with booties! I can tell it’s going to be a really versatile piece for you!

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Thank you! I hope it will be! I’m already thinking of other ways to style it once it cools down around here!

  12. I love that red is trending right now! Really cute dress and I love how you’ve paired it with the boots.

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Yes; it’s such a fun color to wear!

  13. That is a cute dress! I love the asymmetrical hem. Being stylish as a WAH mom is SO hard. Anytime I try to wear anything nice it gets smeared with who knows what. It needs to be comfortable. It needs to be long enough to bend over a million times a day. This looks like a great option! Thanks for introducing me to eShakti.

    1. Mary Leigh says:

You are not kidding. I can totally relate! I need things that are easy to put together, comfortable enough for all day and versatile enough for whatever activity we’ve got going on. Preferably with pockets and must be machine washable. So many criteria! 😉

  14. Super cute & I love the color! I cannot wait to update my fall wardrobe. I’m FINALLY going to do it this year & get out of my workout clothes. Lol!

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Yes! Good luck with that. Hold onto some of the workout clothes though – I definitely save some space for them in my wardrobe, too! 😉

  15. That is a really cute dress and I agree that it’s perfect for fall. And the color is gorgeous – great choice! I haven’t tried eshakti yet – I have no idea why, but oh well – so I really need to get on it. I love the concept of being able to customize your clothes so that they fit and feel great. Also, Fall is my favorite time of the year, too, and your list has me so excited for all of the festivities that are coming up! I’m even more excited now that I have a little one to share the excitement with. He’s still a little too young to get it, but you can never start them too early, right? 😉

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Yes! Fall is exciting. I think he’s old enough to enjoy some of the fun! <3

  16. I love the dress color and the asymmetrical hemline. You have accessorized it perfectly with the necklace and boots. A plaid scarf will look great with it when the weather is cooler.

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Thanks so much! I’m hoping to style it several different ways as it gets cooler It feels like it will be really versatile!

  17. Very cute dress! I love the color and how comfortable it looks. It seems like you could wear it anywhere!

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Yes! I look forward to adding a vest and a scarf when it cools down some!

  18. I love eShakti! I have a dress and a pair of jeans from them! That dress looks awesome on you.

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Oh fun! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed your experience with them also!

  19. You had me at, “It has pockets.” 🙂 Having kids means I *need* pockets to manage my day.

PS that Fall bucket list is amazing. I’ve been craving pumpkin bread but everyone keeps telling me, “It’s too early for pumpkin anything.” Haters.

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Pumpkin everything! And yes, I also need pockets. For snacks. My phone. Hiding the pacifier during the day. Car keys. I need pockets for all the things!

  20. Andrea Nine says:

What a great dress with a great hem! Perfect for Fall. You look adorable!

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Thank you! It’s not a hem I tend to gravitate to naturally, but it has definitely grown on me!

  21. I love this color and it’s perfect paired with booties for Fall. And your list? Sounds like Fall perfection if you ask me.

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Thanks so much! I’m hoping we can get to all the activities this season!

  22. What a darling dress! I love how versatile it could be too. I’ve never heard of this company but I love that everything can be customized. So awesome!

    1. Mary Leigh says:

It is really a great concept. It definitely takes longer for shipping and I think you have to read the descriptions well to know what the fabric, etc. is. But, overall, I’ve enjoyed them!

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Thank you! I do think the longer sleeves will be really nice especially in the evenings when it’s cooler!

  23. Super cute! That’s awesome that you can customize the dress (and hellooooo pockets!). Fall is by far my favorite season too – there are a ton of fall races, and the hiking during fall is BEAUTIFUL (I can’t wait for some fabulous fall foliage!) And shout-out to another marching band kid! (I played clarinet, what about you?)

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Yes – pockets! I love them! We are excited for the leaves to change, too. 🙂 And yes, hooray for band! I played mellophone!

    1. Mary Leigh says:

      Thank you so much!

  24. I love the fall! So many fun things to do. The dress is perfect, especially the colour. It looks fab on you. Love the boots too. Thanks for sharing with #bloggersbest xx

  25. This dress is so cute! I can see how versatile a piece it will be this fall/winter season. Fall is my favorite season too – I love getting to wear sweaters and boots and not get sweaty every time I step outside. I drink my coffee and lattes hot all year round too, but it’s somehow different and better in the cooler weather.

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Thanks! I agree – fall is so wonderful. So so wonderful! I’m ready for NC to go ahead and get the memo on the weather!

  26. What a beautiful dress! It will be so fun to style with other pieces this fall. Your fall activity list looks so fun, too!

Thank you so much! I’m hoping I’ll be able to style it with other pieces too!

  27. I have not heard of this company before. I love that it’s a made to order dress! A unique dress with almost zero chances of running into someone else with that style! I like your dress! The color and style. You did great and it looks good on you.

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Yes – exactly! Thank you so much; I appreciate you stopping by!

  28. Such a beautiful fall dress. Love the color. Looks great with the booties.

    1. Mary Leigh says:

      Thanks so much!

  29. I totally agree with you about the colour of that dress, it is absolutely perfect for Autumn/ Fall and you look absolutely stunning wearing it! Nothing on the things to do in Autumn list for us yet, I’m just trying to resist putting the heating on at the moment 🙂 #bloggersbest x

    1. Mary Leigh says:

Thanks so much! It’s still so hot here on most days. We had a couple of weeks of great, mild, fall weather and now summer is having it’s last hoorah it feels like.
