We have been quiet around this space the last couple of weeks, but things have certainly been anything but quiet over here in our day to day!  One thing we’ve been having fun with recently, is some kid-friendly DIY project with essential oils from our July essential oil box from Simply Earth.

This post is in collaboration with Simply Earth and contains affiliate links.  As you know, I only partner with brands and products that I use and love and all experiences and opinions are my own.  You can use my code ML20FREE to receive a $40 gift card to Simply Earth with your first box purchase!

Why Simply Earth Essential Oils?

Simply Earth reached out to me several months ago to try their Essential Oil Recipe box – and to be honest, I was not completely sure what to expect.  Essential oils were something that were new to me at the time (and something that I’m still learning about) and I thought I would give them a try.

The mission of Simply Earth is to “make your home natural at an affordable price.”

And so, I did some research to learn more about how their oils are sourced and tested, what sorts of educational information they provide, and to see if their prices really were as affordable as they claim.  I was not disappointed.

Simply Earth is very transparent when it comes to the testing and purity of their oils.  All oils are tested for 100% purity before being put on the market.  You can read more about the purity of their essential oils here.

Additionally, when you search their website for single oils and blends, they provide a significant amount of information on each oil – where it is sourced from, safety and precautions, which oils it pairs well with, and tips and recipes for using the oil at home.  They even have a free, downloadable e-book with lots of information, which has been a great resource to me as I learn more about essential oils in our home.

How’s this for transparency? You know exactly who packed your box!

This sort of transparency is something that I really appreciate.

Another thing I love about Simply Earth is that they give 13% of all their profits to organizations that are fighting human trafficking around the world.  Each month, they support a new organization, which you can learn more about here.  (And they include a card with the monthly organization in each subscription box, which allows customers to learn more about these organizations as well.)

Simply Earth Essential Oils Subscription Box

One of the easiest ways to get started with Simply Earth is through their Essential Oil Recipe Box subscription.  Each month, you’ll receive a themed box with 4 full sized bottles of essential oils, 6 recipe cards using those oils, and most of the ingredients and supplies for each recipe.

In addition to that, when you first subscribe, you receive a “Big Bonus Box”, which is packed full of supplies that you will be able to use for the next several months’ subscription boxes.  Supplies like roller bottles, spray bottles, carrier oils, etc.  I have used the supplies from this box for each of my subscription boxes.

And, all of that, for just $39.  It really is a GREAT and affordable way to get started with essential oils.  PLUS, when you use my link to order and add the coupon code ML20FREE, you’ll get a $40 gift card for a future purchase.  You can’t beat it.

July Box: What’s Inside + Our Review

Today, I’m sharing our review of this month’s box – which you can purchase throughout this month while supplies last.

RELATED: Read all our Simply Earth reviews here.

Theme of July’s box was kids and kid-friendly DIY projects.  Usually, I take an afternoon while the boys are sleeping to go through our recipe cards for the month and try them out, but for this box, I obviously wanted to include my oldest, who is [almost] always up for new projects with me in the afternoons – especially while little brother is sleeping!

Here’s what you’ll get in this month’s box:

Essential Oils

Recipe Cards

  • Sweet Dreams Roll On
  • Homework Diffuser Blend
  • DIY Scented Stress Ball
  • Lavender Scented Bubbles
  • Natural Slime
  • Sweet Dreams Bath

Other Goodies

  • Balloon to make the stress ball
  • Psyllum Husk Powder for the natural slime
  • Sticker Sheet to label each recipe once made

What We Made

We didn’t make our way through all the recipe cards for this box.  I really wanted to be able to make this a special activity with Little since the whole point of the box was “kids”.  So, I let him help me choose which cards we would make together.  And I’ve saved some of the rest for later.

Not surprisingly, he chose to make the slime and bubbles.  And I opted to make the diffuser blend quickly before we got started.

Homework Diffuser Blend

There is always a new diffuser blend in each  month’s box and it’s the first card I try.  This one was a blend of fir needle and tangerine – a blend that I would not have thought of myself.  But, I was pleasantly surprised.

Obviously, my children are not doing homework quite yet, but I still loved the fresh smell of this blend.  And I really appreciated the reminder on the recipe card to use caution when diffusing oils around children.  Because they are more sensitive and breathe more frequently than adults, it’s best to diffuse the oils for short times rather than leaving the oils diffusing all day long around them.

Natural Slime

This one was the first one that my oldest and I tried together.  Since it involved some cooking and cooling time, we thought we would make the slime then set it aside to cool while we made the bubbles.

We have not ventured into the slime making business until this box and it was certainly an experience.  Little loved the ooey gooey texture of the slime, although he chose to use green food coloring, and frankly, it ended up looking like snot to me….what can I say?

BUT, we [I] looked past the messiness and just enjoyed watching him enjoy it.  He thought it was hilarious and a really fun sensory activity. It turned out to be a hit!

I really wish I had photos of how it turned out, but alas.  It was too quickly on to play time.

I will say though, I did enjoy the smell of the lavender and tangerine oils left behind on my hands after we played with the slime.

If your kids love an ooey, gooey, slimy activity – they will definitely love this one!

Lavender Scented Bubbles

The last recipe that we’ve tried is the lavender scented bubbles.  I knew this would be a hit before we even started.

Bubbles are always a good time around here – especially with two little ones.  And I knew that my son would love learning to make his own bubbles.

So, we grabbed the ingredients, an old mason jar, and an old bubble wand (from one of our MANY empty bubble containers so far this summer), and got to work.

The recipe was easy to follow, even for my 3 year old.

And the bubbles turned out great!  Since my youngest was still napping, we got to take them outside for some fun one on one play time!

Our Final Thoughts

Another great box from Simply Earth!  I had such a fun time making some of these recipe cards with my son.

And I loved that all the oils in this box are so versatile and great for the summer – so we will be using them past just this box.

Get Your Own Essential Oils Recipe Box

If you use essential oils already and want to add to your collection, or want to try them out, getting your own box from Simply Earth is a great way to do just that.  And there is still time to get July’s box full of these fun activities!

It is a GREAT deal for just $39 – you get the recipe box PLUS the bonus box for first time subscribers.  PLUS, a $40 gift card just for using the code ML20FREE – grab yours here.  (And because Simply Earth’s oils are so affordable, $40 goes a lot further than it otherwise might!)
