Happy Friday, friends!

I hope you have had a really great week.  It has actually been pretty cold and rainy around here recently – and we are itching for spring.

If you’ve been around here for a minute, you might remember these regular Friday favorite posts in this space.  You know, just a regular dose of random things I’ve been enjoying or thinking about lately.

It’s a more personal kind of post, but one that’s fun to write and share when I can.

And today, I can, so I’m hopping in here today just to share some Friday favorites with you.

Consider this a quick coffee date to catch up and let’s jump in.

A Fresh Start and a New Perspective

Playing Blokus with kids
Yes to afternoon games with the big boys while the littlest one takes a nap.

If you follow on Instagram or are on the email list, you know that January was kind of a whirlwind over here.  And while the good by far outweighed the bad, we were ready for a new month this month.

One of the biggest takeaways from January for me was a total shift in my thinking about goals and priorities this year.

After a lot of reflection, processing, and prayer, I realize that more than having goals, and trying to increase my productivity, or organize one more thing, I need to be more intentional about being present each day.

What I need more than one more list is to really dig in more deeply in prayer and Bible study.  Asking the Holy Spirit to give me wisdom and discernment to understand EACH day what are the important things for THAT day and then focusing my best efforts there that day.

This has actually been a great relief, but still takes effort to go against my urge to try to do all the things.

Going Back to the Library

Ikea Kallax shelves with children's books
Only the one shelf (top left in this photo) is full of library books. Trying to keep them in one place.

One of my VERY favorite things to share this week – trips to the library with the older two boys.

Our local libraries have just recently opened back up for in person visits and we are SO EXCITED.  I can’t even tell you fully.

The trips are different.  They’re are quicker and we don’t get to spend time lounging and reading books while we’re there, but we do get to get new books.

We used to go to the library at least once a week for story times, which was always a highlight of the weeks for us.  We haven’t been in almost a year and I didn’t even realize how much we missed new books until we had them again.

The boys have spent so much more time reading and we’ve loved getting to read new stories out loud together.

It has been so life giving.

Getting Back into the Groove of Things

Lastly, let’s just give a big hoorah for getting back into the swing of things over here.

In all the things – meal planning, blogging, homemaking, all of it.

This largely goes hand in hand with my number one up there about focusing my energy on the most important things for each day rather than trying to do everything everyday.

Kitchen pre-clean, but honestly, in pretty good shape for the end of the week.

It feels good.

I definitely do not have it all together (but let’s be real – does anyone?).  But I am working hard to lean into the moment.  Being present with my people.  Finding ways to extend hospitality and foster connections with friends and neighbors despite the challenges of the world we live in now.

And that’s where we are.  One day at a time over here.
